Video Production
Professional video production, or videography, is the art and service of filming, editing, and distributing a finished video product. This includes television production, commercial video production, and corporate and event videos. There are three stages of video production which are known as pre-production, production and post-production;
Pre-Production
After having initial meetings with a client to assess their wants and needs a video treatment will be developed along with a suggested budget. Once this has been a approved a script will be developed in industry standard format. In addition storyboards will often be created in order to illustrate shot composition and camera movements before starting principal photography. This allows clients to get more of a feel for the proposed look of a project as well as helping production to run quicker and smoother.
Production
This involves location filming with a camera crew and director. This will sometimes include other elements, such as actors and presenters.
Post-production
This is where the filmed (live action) footage is edited together. This may also include recording an audio voice-over, adding graphics, composing a music score or soundtrack, and incorporation of 2D/3D animation sequences.
The time and scale of a video production can vary greatly. Some videos may use only minimal crew and basic equipment, whilst some large scale videos may have similar budgets and level of production to a broadcast television programme or TV commercial.
